RCMP Report - Groove gives police problems

Midway police had a busy weekend when the Groove Music Festival was here.

The “Groove” music festival wasn’t so groovy, say Midway RCMP. During the July 6-8 weekend, police dealt with several issues arising from the “Groove” festival located at the top of Ingram Mountain road on private property.

“Midway RCMP had reports including an overdose, assault, theft, and missing person,” said Cpl. Kevin Christensen of the Boundary Regional RCMP.

Christensen also stated there have been reports of ATVs and side-by-side all terrain vehicles being driven around Greenwood.

He said that some of these motorized vehicles have obtained legal permits by the RCMP to be operated in accordance with Division 24 of the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations (MVAR). Several people have attended to the Midway RCMP office to obtain such a permit so they can drive around Greenwood in their all terrain vehicles but have been denied.

“The rules (which are stated clearly on the permit) state that the permit is only valid and restricted for use for farming, industrial, maintenance, landscaping, or transportation on a limited access island,” Christensen said. “The permit also restricts use of the vehicles to crossing a highway, on the untraveled portion of the highway or within 100 metres of a work site.”

“If these permits are being misused... then their vehicle will be towed and they will be issued a $598 fine for no insurance as well as other fines for disobeying an RCMP operation permit.”
