Midway RCMP are looking for a male suspect in connection with alleged violations of British Columbia’s Wildlife and Trespass Acts.
Cpl. Phil Peters said a man was videotaped last spring on a trail-camera that was set up on a wooded lot in Rock Creek, without the property-owner’s permission.
Peters said recovered footage shows the man laying out deer bait inside the property. It was fenced-in and clearly marked as privately-owned land.
Crossing a fence-line in view of clear signage is an offence under the Trespass Act, Peters added.
It is illegal to hunt game on private property without permission from the owner, according to the Wildlife Act.
Peters said he would consider ticketing the suspect under either or both of the acts, but would prefer to leave him with a lasting lesson.
“I’m more the kind of officer that likes to educate people … If we have a conversation and he sees the error in his ways, that, to me, would be ideal.”
