Mental Health Week celebrated

Recent studies have shown 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime - the leading cause of disability in Canada.

This spring at the Grand Forks and District Art and Heritage Centre, was the region’s only locally driven event to celebrate Mental Health Week,“The Art of Being Well.”

It was a well-attended showcase that highlighted resources and community organizations that can contribute to one’s mental and physical well being.

The lunch-time presentation by Dr. Naiker,“Stress and Its Consequences” was appreciated by clients, local support facilities as well as the general public.

There were also a few raffles for “wellness baskets”through generously donated items from local businesses. The artwork was composed of paintings and illustrations from local mental health clients as well as from Boundary Family and Individual Services Society’s youth groups’ projects.

Special thanks to all who participated!
