Pumpkinfest returns

Pumpkinfest is returning in 2013. Pat Pownall of Discover Rock Creek started the project to make the town more memorable for tourists.

From Rock Creek Pumpkinfest harvest ranges from the whimsical to mechanical.

The Discover Rock Creek Society has published their 2013 Rock Creek Business Directory and it is now available in participating stores.

“This year’s publication is bigger and more comprehensive than ever, including a section on our local 4-H club in honour of 4-H Canada celebrating its 100th anniversary this year,” said president Pat Pownall. The directory features event listings as well as the opportunity to discover the variety of local businesses ready to serve you in the Rock Creek area.

Discover Rock Creek is bringing back the Pumpkinfest again this year too. Pownall says the “pumpkin crop”’ is ready to go!

“You can pick up your blank copy from Rags, Relics and Rutabagas and unleash the creative beast in you,” she said. Blanks are $7 and after you glue, paint, draw, embellish, etc. you return your masterpiece to Pownall and all entries are given individual awards by a panel of quick-witted judges and then dispersed to local businesses to be displayed and enjoyed by all.

Both tourists and locals alike are delighted by the opportunity to “hunt down” the latest creations and visit stores that display them. Pumpkinfest will be held at West Boundary Elementary School in late October. Proceeds go to the Discover Rock Creek Society, which uses the funds to enable other community projects.
