The Midway Community Association hosted the 2nd annual Picnic in the Park last Saturday. Open to both village residents and those from the surrounding area. Winner of the photo finish to this egg and spoon race was the young man in the near lane – he won by a tongue.

There was a sit-in at James G. McMynn Park in Midway last Saturday night when the community association hosted the second annual Picnic in the Park for everyone in the community and surrounding areas.

The reason for the sit-in was benign, though. It was simply more comfortable to sit on a lawn chair or blanket after dark when the community association presented a showing of ET under the stars.

People were probably too tired to stand through the two-hour show anyway because the old-fashioned picnic had started over three hours earlier with hotdogs and lawn games—bocce, Frisbee golf and ladder ball. Frank Owen brought out the village fire engine, a huge thrill for everyone who took a ride, especially the young kids.

After dinner there were organized games such as stick horse races, egg and spoon, orange pass, three-legged race and the classic wheelbarrow race and tug of war competitions.

There was nothing but good comments on Facebook about the event the next day.

“Super cool! So happy we went— exciting!” wrote Sandra Eaton.

“Had a fantastic evening in Midway watching ET outside under the night sky in the park. Was such a cool experience. Thank you to the Midway Community Association for putting it on. Hope you do it again,” Sarah Geen said.
