Boundary Minor Hockey hosted a coach hybrid clinic on home ice in Midway last Sunday that saw minor hockey teams from throughout the West Kootenay Minor Hockey Association (WKMHA) represented.
WKMHA coach co-ordinator Shawn Brandt was pleased that 45 coaches from all levels of minor hockey showed up for the session.
The nine-hour clinic was the second part of mandatory training for minor hockey coaches. Before this gathering everyone had to complete a four-hour online course.
The Atom Predator team was called into service during a two-hour on-ice component of the clinic so Brandt could demonstrate some of the coaching fundamentals he covered in the classroom earlier in the day.
The course covered topics such as how to plan and create practice sessions, skill development techniques and proper methods to stay safe and avoid injury.
