A snowfall warning has been issued for much of the BC Interior, including the Kootenays, while the Elk Valley region is under a winter storm warning, according to Environment Canada.

Snow is forecasted to start late Tuesday and overnight into Wednesday over much of the Kootenays, with up to 20 centimetres of snow expected, while the Elk Valley could see up to 25 centimetres, particularly near Fernie.

“A cold front will combine with a Pacific low pressure system and bring snow, heavy at times into southern BC,” reads an Environment Canada bulletin.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced during heavy snowfall and be prepared to adjust to winter driving conditions, says Environment Canada.

Much of the B.C. Interior is coming off a cold snap in recent days where temperatures dropped as low as -30.
