There will be plenty of activities for families in Grand Forks and the Boundary area to do for the BC Family Day long weekend.

If you are looking for a creative outlet, Gallery 2 will be hosting Composing the Landscape, a free drop-in program Feb. 16 and 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to let people add their artistic signature to a larger project.

Inspired by Kelsey Stephenson’s gridded depiction of landscape, people of all ages can come fill in their own piece of a Grand Forks vista, captured from above the valley, stated a news release. Every person will be given a segment of a larger composite image to colour based on their perception of the city. Each segment contains some visual cues to the larger image and plenty of room for interpretation, the release stated.

Once all the individual segments are finished they will be added to the grid, creating a larger combined depiction of place that integrates individual interpretation and a collective perspective.

This activity is supported by the Province of British Columbia through the BC Museums Association.

On Feb. 17, The Boundary Museum and Archives is opening its doors for free events starting at 11 a.m. On the list of things to do will be ATV rides, hot dogs, hot chocolate, free admission to the museum and more activities.

Want to head outdoors? Phoenix Mountain Ski Area is open for actual BC Family Day, Feb. 19, from 9:30 to 3:30 p.m., offering games, a BBQ and half prices on equipment rentals and lift tickets.
