It’s the time of year when small businesses are singled out for recognition of their contributions to our community.
Small Business Week (Oct. 20-26) is coming up next month and Community Futures Boundary and the Boundary Country Regional Chamber of Commerce are partnering to sponsor the Business Excellence and Community Awards.
Last year there weren’t many nominations from the West Boundary.
We need to change that. There are several establishments in our end of the Boundary that have worked hard over the past year to provide goods and services to us. This is an opportunity for locals to acknowledge them.
Organizers are keen to encourage the general populace to participate, and we in the West Boundary should be keen to nominate the local businesses that have worked hard over the past year to earn a place in the local economy.
There are nine Community Awards categories, open to any business in the Boundary.
• Business of the Year
• Family friendly Business
• Individual – Service Excellence
• Business – Service Excellence
• Community Volunteer
• Community Impact
• Youth
• Green Award
• Retail Excellence Award
Nomination forms (with full explanation of what each category means) are available at the Community Futures Boundary office in Grand Forks at 1647 Central Avenue, at the Greenwood office at 245 S. Copper St., or you can make your nomination(s) known online by following the link found under ‘Latest News’ on their website.
Nominations must be received by Oct. 9, 2013. That’s less than two weeks away – so don’t procrastinate on this one folks. The awards ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, Oct.24 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Grand Forks Curling Club.
Let us show our appreciation for those who serve us from the other side of the counter.
