April 14, 1947 - January 27, 2020
On Monday, January 27, 2020, Mr. Lyle Wayne Dawson of Osoyoos passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 72 years.
Lyle was predeceased by his father Crae and his mother Hazel.
Lyle is survived by his wife Ilean of 53 years; his son Terry; son Wayne (Joelle) and grandson Crae.
Lyle started his working career on the family farm. Lyle and John Douglas were the original independent farmers, starting to market and sell their fruit. They even spent weekends in jail to break away from B.C.T.F. To this day there are independent farms and packing plants in the Southern Okanagan thanks to these Trail Blazers. Lyle loved farming and gardening especially growing his notable pumpkins.
Lyle loved the outdoors. He especially admired hunting and fishing with his sons and best friend Bud. Lyle could often be found hanging out at his cabin with family and tons of friends. Anyone who knew Lyle knew that his Cabin was a special place for him.
He also loved travelling extensively with his wife and friends, especially when it came to camping. The couple has fond memories of Yellowstone, Oregon, Arizona, Mexico, New Mexico, Las Vegas, and Hawaii. Lyle's favourite hobby was curling. He often went to curling bonspiels but his favourite ones were always Greenwood and Midway.
Lyle loved his community, volunteering his time loaning equipment to build and start the Osoyoos Golf Course, and was instrumental in the building of the present-day Osoyoos Curling Club as well as the Sun Bowl Arena. Lyle loved spending time with his grandson, taking him camping and fishing and watching him play hockey. Lyle had a great sense of humour and if he had something to say, he said it. Lyle cherished friendship and family and was always there for both.
A celebration of life for Lyle will be held at a later date.
