The West Boundary Community Forest is now accepting grant applications for its 2020 fiscal year.

In 2019, the community forest gave out more than $30,000 in grants to West Boundary schools, community groups and non-profit societies, such as the Boundary Métis Community Association, the West Boundary Senior Housing Society, Boundary Minor Hockey and the Midway Public Library.

According to the community forest’s criteria, grants are targeted “especially [to] those groups involved with youths, seniors, education, minor sports, public recreation and possibly a local group that is putting on an event that is open to the public.”

The largest grant awarded in 2019 went to the Boundary Central Secondary School, to help pay for an archery kit.

Grants from the community forest do not cover political or religious activities, nor are they meant to fund strictly the maintenance costs of a society, such as start-up costs, fees and administration.

People and organizations interested in applying for grants can find application forms on the West Boundary Community Forest website and at the Village of Midway office.

The deadline to apply for grants is Friday, March 27, but money will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
