Two cyclists are recovering after being hit by a vehicle while taking part in a cycling event near Grand Forks.

The cyclists were hit Sunday on Highway 3 while on the final leg of Rob's Ride, a three-day, roughly 300-kilometre tour of Canadian and U.S. roads around the Boundary community, police said.

A 2006 blue Dodge Dakota pickup truck fled the scene, but crashed a few kilometres away. Its driver was taken to hospital for assessment.

Investigators say blood samples have been taken to determine if alcohol played a part.

They are also appealing for any witnesses to the collision involving the cyclists or to the roll-over crash a few minutes later.

Although the cyclists are not badly hurt, police said the two bikes did not fare as well, with total damage set at more than $10,000.
