‘Microsoft’ calls are a scam

Local RCMP warn that the "your computer is broken" phone scam is hitting the area again.

Boundary Regional RCMP are warning local residents that they have again received reports from several citizens of being targeted by scam artists claiming that they are from Microsoft.

“They advise that something is wrong with your computer and ask for money to fix your computer or gain access to your computer,” Corporal Kevin Christensen told the Times.

“This is a scam that has been going on for a long time. Please tell your friends and loved ones that this is a scam. Microsoft does not phone people telling them that something is wrong with their computer. DO NOT give out your credit card or personal information to this type of scam or even a similar scam.”
