The City of Greenwood is buying a new sand spreader with money from local log sales.

The city’s current sander is “old and tired,” Mayor Barry Noll said at Monday’s council meeting at the McArthur Centre, on Nov. 9. The truck-mounted “bouncer” will be replaced sometime this winter by a new steel-cast machine quoted at $9,000, plus taxes and the cost of shipping, Noll told The Times.

City hall will buy the spreader with proceeds from log sales from the West Boundary Community Forest, managed by Vaagen Fibre’s Dan McMaster.

The new spreader was quoted by Langley, B.C.’s Work Truck West. The machine boasts a one-metre drop radius, using features designed to break up sand and de-icing materials, according to the quote.

The current spreader hails from the 1970s and was rebuilt six years ago, according to council’s resolution.

The West Boundary Community Forest is managed on behalf of the City of Greenwood and the Village of Midway, whose five directors annually donate $50,000 in community grants from log sales, according to McMaster.
