A $1.45 million contract has been awarded to Peter's Bros Construction Ltd. of Penticton to resurface eight km of Big White Road.

“This work improves the Big White Road surface and provides safer driving conditions for the travelling public,” Boundary-Similkameen MLA Linda Larson said. “This project is one of several government commitments for improved roadways to give area residents and tourists better access to a variety of recreational opportunities. This project will improve the safety of this road connecting Highway 33 and the Big White Ski Resort , which attracts many tourists throughout the winter ski season.”

The road upgrading will start approximately three km east of the junction of Big White Road and Highway 33. Work is anticipated to begin in July and to be completed by the end of August.

This spring, Highway 33 travellers will also see ongoing works at the intersection of Big White Road and Highway 33. As part of the Highway 33 Passing Lane Project, the Big White Road intersection is being relocated approximately 175 metres to the south to improve safety and access sightlines. The reconstructed intersection will have a left turn bay, northbound acceleration and deceleration lanes, and lighting, to improve safety for those accessing Big White Road. The Passing Lane project construction will continue through the summer with completion anticipated in September 2014.
