Police have arrested a 20-year-old Cranbrook man for several sexual and online offences.
The arrest occurred following a police-issued warning issued earlier in March regarding online extortion and sexual interference.
“This is a direct result of the hard work by our local officers that remain dedicated to the protection of public safety,” says Cpl. Felicia Parker.
The accused, who cannot be identified until charges are approved by Crown counsel, was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Cranbrook Law Court at a future date.
The investigation was carried out by the Cranbrook RCMP General Investigation Section with the assistance of General Duty.
Weeks ago, the Cranbrook RCMP issued a public warning after girls between 11 to 14-years-old were being targeted online through social media applications by an unknown man soliciting intimate images in exchange for money, drugs or alcohol.
Police remind the public that it is important to be aware of children's online activity and to remain diligent with online safety and setting boundaries.
