The City of Greenwood is donating one dollar for every resident toward the rebuilding of Lytton, destroyed in a wildfire last summer.

City council unanimously voted to cut the village a $665 cheque at its last regular meeting Monday, Oct. 12. The resolution, motioned and seconded by couns. Jim Nathorst and Mark Seymour, follows a similar contribution by the Regional District of Mount Waddington, which spans B.C.’s central coast and the northern tip of Vancouver Island.

The Lytton wildfire, which burned 90 per cent of the village, made headlines again last week. In a controversial announcement Thursday, Oct. 14, the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) said its investigation found no evidence to link the disaster to area railway traffic.

The fire, still under investigation by the RCMP, broke out on June 30, shortly after temperatures in Lytton hit a record-setting 49 degrees celsius.

Marcus Lebler, Greenwood’s Chief Administrative Officer, said city hall will cut the cheque Thursday, Oct. 28.
