Busy week for local police

Incidents and arrests over the holidays have police asking for public assistance.

RCMP are asking people to report if they noticed anything missing over the holidays.

RCMP Corporal Kevin Christensen

told the Times that on December 28 several sharp-eyed citizens in Midway observed a suspicious car parked on Palmerston Avenue overnight and alerted the police.

Officers were able to locate two individuals and a pit bull who were linked to the car.

The car had two different licence plates from two different vehicles. Police located stolen mail (cheque books, government cheques, credit cards and other mail) stolen from mail boxes which had been broken into from the Fernie/Sparwood area the day before.

Police also located stolen tools and other items stolen from a break and enter in the Salmo area. The two individuals were also connected with a break-in of a vehicle in Midway. Numerous items were seized from the vehicle and charges will be sought.

Christensen is asking anyone who had contact with these two individuals or noticed anything stolen during the past couple of weeks to contact the Midway RCMP.

Police were out conducting numerous road checks during the holiday season and seized several “no case” drug seizures as well as another firearm located in a backpack.

Officers issued a pair of three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions as well as two 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions.

According to Christensen RCMP officers have also responded to several domestic disputes some in which charges of assault are pending as well as reports of depressed and suicidal individuals.

On December 27, RCMP were busy on Hwy 3 east of Greenwood with several motor vehicle incidents. There were no serious injuries however police were kept busy with vehicles not being able to stay on the road.
