Break and enters, thefts on the rise

Police urge vigilance as a rash of break and enters and thefts hit the West Boundary.

There’s been a rash of break and enters and thefts, confirmed RCMP.

A number of vehicles were recently broken into at the Vaagen Mill parking lot.

Police urge everyone to be vigilant in locking their vehicles and to report any suspicious activity. If someone witnesses an incident while it is in progress they are asked to phone 911 immediately.

Command of the Midway RCMP detachment has been taken over by Cpl. Judson E.T. Mayes, who is replacing Cpl. Kevin Christensen.

Mayes told the Times on Monday that Midway RCMP dealt with two altercations with respect to the Groove Music Festival. He said both were drug related in nature and no charges were laid.

On Thursday, June 12 a plumber’s van was completely destroyed by fire on the Jewel Lake Road approximately two kilometres below the resort. While the area is within the service area of the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department, Fire Chief Roy Terashita said there were not enough members in town at the time to respond and the van was allowed to burn itself out.

Grand Forks resident Patrick O’Doherty confirmed he was the owner of the van. He told the Times on Tuesday he had nothing but praise for the RCMP and ICBC and that he understands why the city was unable to respond.
