Editor's Note: The Green Party replaced their candidate in the riding following the original publishing of this story. The current candidate is Philip Mansfield. It is unclear at this point if he will attend the forum.
With a snap election called, and early voting starting from April 18 to 21, the Penticton and Wine Country Chamber of Commerce has moved to put together an All-Candidates Forum shortly after candidate registration closes.
The April 8 forum for the candidates of the Similkameen-South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding will be held at the Cleland Theatre in Penticton with doors opening to the public at 5:30 p.m.
“The Chamber is committed to providing opportunities to hear directly from the candidates who seek to represent us on issues that are important to Penticton and the South Okanagan,” said Jordan Knox, President of the Chamber. “We encourage all residents and business leaders in Penticton to attend as we prepare to select our representative in Ottawa.”
Space is limited and registration is advised, which can be done online.
So far, three candidates have confirmed their attendance for the forum, according to a press release from the chamber:
* Barry Dewar, running for the People’s Party of Canada
* Helena Konanz, running for the Conservative Party of Canada
* Linda Sankey running for the NDP
The Green Party's original candidate Carol Dyck had not confirmed her attendance, and it is unclear if current candidate Philip Mansfield will attend.
The riding does not currently have a Liberal Party of Canada candidate, or any Independent candidates.
The final date for registering as a candidate is April 7, with Elections Canada publishing the final ballot list on April 9 ahead of the election.
