A man awaiting trial on child sex charges has been charged with additional sexual assaults.
James Peter John Walts (35) was in Castlegar court on Jan. 15 for his first appearance before a judge on charges issued on Nov. 1, 2024 for two counts of sexual assault, assault, assault causing bodily harm, pointing a firearm and careless use or storage of a firearm.
According to the B.C. online court database, these offences occurred in Castlegar. They allegedly took place on four separate dates between March 1, 2019 and March 1, 2020.
Walts was previously charged with sexual interference of a person under 16 and sexual assault on May 28, 2024. He entered a not-guilty plea to these charges on July 24, 2024.
A court-ordered publication ban prohibiting the identification of a victim or witness is in place for the May 2024 charges.
Walts' next court appearance for both matters is scheduled for Feb. 12.
