Blaze in Greenwood leads to loss of building

A woman is reportedly in hospital with smoke inhalation.

A serious house fire in Greenwood on Sunday night has resulted in a the loss of a building and left a Greenwood resident scrambling.

According to Greenwood Fire Department Chief Roy Terashita, the fire on Sunday night was in a steel shop in the industrial area of Greenwood. The building was a complete loss, and a nearby SUV sustained some heat damage.

Terashita, as well as friends on social media, said a woman was in hospital with smoke inhalation. They are still working to determine the cause of the blaze, Terashita said.

Terashita said the fire department received huge assistance from the Midway Fire Department as well as Greenwood and Midway ambulance crews and the RCMP.

“Many thanks to the Midway Fire Dept. Greenwood and Midway ambulance crews and RCMP for their help,” Terashita said via email.

Meanwhile, social media quickly mobilized Sunday night to begin outfitting the victim of the fire with everything she had lost. RJ Lesher put out the call for the woman, who she identified as her friend, and who will need new furniture, kitchenware and more.
