Silverton is no longer on evacuation alert after nearby wildfires threatened the Slocan Valley community.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay announced Friday that it had rescinded the alert for Silverton as well as 17 properties and 18 parcel identifiers in the surrounding area.

Silverton was evacuated July 24-30, and had since been on an alert as several large fires grew south of the community.

The Komonko Creek fire remains out of control and growing at 4,006 hectares, while directly across Slocan Lake the Nemo Creek fire is 5,790 hectares.

Highway 6 meanwhile remains closed from Silverton to 11 kilometres south of Slocan.

The Village of Slocan is also still under an evacuation order. The nearby Ponderosa fire is 1,548 hectares, while on the west side of the community the Mulvey Creek fire is 2,037 hectares.
