A Warfield man, 43, remains in custody following a major police operation that resulted in the seizure of 24 firearms, body armour, and a significant amount of stolen property.
On Thursday, June 26, officers from the Trail, Castlegar, Nelson, and Southeast District RCMP executed a search warrant on a property in the 1300 block of Schofield Highway, in Warfield.
The warrant was issued under Section 487 of the Criminal Code.
As part of the operation, Schofield Highway was closed to ensure the safety of the public and police while officers secured the property and took five people into custody.
A search of the property and its buildings followed.
According to police, two dozen firearms were seized as well as various firearm-related items, a conductive energy weapon, body armour, and what investigators described as a substantial quantity of stolen goods.
Following a bail hearing before a judge, the man from Warfield remains in custody.
Police say a report will be submitted to Crown counsel for consideration of charges.
“The investigation was a top priority for the Trail and Castlegar RCMP detachment as it unfolded," Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said in a July 2 statement.
"We received incredible support from the Southeast District RCMP which included the Emergency Response Team and Nelson Forensic Identification Section."
This investigation will show that crime does not stay within city limits, he added.
"The RCMP remains committed to making our cities a safer place to be."
Wicentowich confirmed to the Trail Times there were no injuries reported from this operation.
