A transfer station located north of Kootenay Lake is closed after logs from a nearby forestry operation slid down a slope and damaged a building at the facility.

A spokesperson for the Regional District of Central Kootenay said the incident occurred Jan. 27 at the Marblehead Transfer Station near Meadow Creek.

The station was closed at the time and no one was injured, but one of the logs damaged a shack.

It's not clear how the logs slid free of the area operated by Cooper Creek Cedar, which has not yet replied to a request for comment from the Nelson Star.

WorkSafeBC told the Star one of its officers responded to the incident but had not yet finished their report.

The transfer station is typically only open Wednesdays and Saturdays. The RDCK says it will likely reopen Wednesday, Feb. 5.
