Human-caused wildfire south of Castlegar contained

A wildfire near Castlegar was discovered May 6

A small wildfire south of Castlegar has been contained at .47 hectares.

The Champion Creek fire was discovered on May 6 on the eastern shore of the Columbia River near the Blagodatnoye Loop Trail.

BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says it was the result of human activity.

BCWS has already recorded 172 wildfires this year and a total of 1564 hectares burned.
