Car fire near Grand Forks being investigated

Crews, RCMP called out to car fire on Granby Road

A car fire that happened Sept. 17 on Granby Road is still being investigated by RCMP and Grand Forks Fire/Rescue.

A news release from the fire department stated at 11:03 p.m., Grand Forks Fire/Rescue was called to a report of a vehicle on fire in the 8200 block of Granby Road.

Crews arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames with minor spread to the grassy area on the side of the road. No one was inside the vehicle, the release added. A rescue engine, a tender, a bush truck, and two utility trucks arrived on scene and put out the fire. Crews needed to use foam as the fuel tank had failed and water alone couldn’t put out the fire.

While there were no injuries, RCMP and Grand Forks Fire/Rescue are investigating the cause and circumstances surrounding the fire. An update from Detachment Commander Sgt. Darryl Peppler confirmed the owner reported the car stolen. As of Monday, there were still no suspects or witnesses.

Firefighters are reminding everyone that if they spot a fire to call 911 so help can be sent as soon as possible. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to report it to the Grand Forks RCMP detachment.
