The provincial government is funding $1.2 million toward a company's two capital projects that it says will create more than 80 jobs in South Slocan.
Drop Group plans on using $950,000 to build a new 4,800-square-feet facility for its company Drop Sprockets, which designs and manufactures sprockets for the forestry, agriculture, mining and manufacturing industries. That addition will add 52 new jobs and help the company increase its production output by 50 per cent.
The company also owns Drop Marine, which builds commercial marine vehicles as well as components for customers in forestry. It will use $218,000 to build a new facility and scale up production while creating 30 jobs. The funding adds to the $474,000 that Drop Marine has already been granted by the province through the Association of British Columbia Marine Industries.
"The funding offers a remarkable opportunity for our businesses and community, enabling us to expand our facilities and technologies while adding more long-term jobs in the region," Anders Malpass, founder and president of Drop Group, said in a statement.
"It fosters the growth of clean technology in a rural, remote area, reinforcing our dedication to driving positive change and impact. We are profoundly grateful for the trust placed in us and look forward to continuing to make meaningful contributions to our community and industries."
The Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation announced the funding Sept. 11 as part of its BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund.
"Local manufacturers are looking to grow their business and bring sustainable jobs to their communities for the long term," said Jobs Minister Brenda Bailey. "By partnering with home-grown B.C. companies, we're able to help them meet their goals and enhance their operations while fostering economic growth."
