A community fundraiser in Westbridge earned over $1,500 for the Rock Creek Community Medical Society (RCCMS) over the Victoria Day long weekend.

Westbridge Pet and Farm owners Meira and Denis Champagne hosted the fundraiser outside their store on Sunday, May 23. Around 200 people came out to enjoy barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs and to visit stalls put up by around 10 local vendors.

“It’s our community that should stand out here. It was locals who came out to give donations,” Meira told The Times.

“We must’ve gone through 100 hamburgers and probably 50 hot dogs,” she added.

RCCMS President Harald Zinner was on hand to accept $1,654 in donations. The proceeds will go toward renovations at the medical centre, which the Champagnes said was last remodeled in the mid-1980s.

Meira Champagne stressed that many people don’t realize that the medical society is a non-profit organization.

For more information about the medical society, call President Zinner at 250-446-2517.
