“In the Village” is a beautiful quilt by Mryna Charlton now on display at the Greenwood Library.

Myrna Charlton estimates there is over 80 hours of work in the quilt that hangs behind the librarian’s desk at the Greenwood library.

She made the quilt through a course she took from Grand Forks quilter Liz Faminoff. “It is Liz’s design but I liberally changed it to suit myself,” she explained.

The course went from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for three days plus overtime.

“We had to show up at the course with our background fully prepared because we spent the three days cutting out the elements and fusing them to the background.”

Then the projects were taken home and stitching was done around each element and the details—the jewelry, flowers, etc.— were added.

It was then quilted, which was done using a technique known as free motion quilting so you can move the fabric any way you want so you can do curves.

She says she made quilts for her kids using the old method, but then did nothing until about three years ago.

Since then she’s been doing nothing but sewing. She also makes all the bags for the Boundary Go-Go’s that are sold through Deadwood Junction.

Myrna invites folks to stop by the Greenwood library (where she volunteers) to view the quilt and urges those who are not members of the library to take out a membership, “So they may enjoy our beautiful library.”

Made all the more beautiful by her quilt. It will hang in the library until the 2014 library raffle quilt is ready, usually in late April or early May.
