Riverfest this Saturday at Rock Creek

Riverfest is coming to Rock Creek this Saturday at the site of the Rock Creek Market beside Rags, Relics and Rutabagas. There will be events throughout the day, including live music.

At 10:30, Oliver resident Dan Skaros will give a presentation on the danger of rattlesnakes – he will be coming with both an aquarium and a rattler.

According to Riverfest organizer Pat Pownall, Skaros was bitten last year and he is still suffering from it. “He will have the snake there so people san see what one looks and sounds like.”

Local photographer John Hibberson will be bringing what Pownall promises to be an “amazing slideshow” that will run on a 10-minute loop through the day showcasing his book and pictures of the river that he has taken over the years.

Both the book and pictures will be available.

Pownall said that a First Nations representative will do a blessing of the river and officially open the day at about 10 a.m.

There will be gold panning demonstrations and kids games through the day. There is also a duck barrel race. The barrel will drop at 1 p.m. on Saturday and the winning guess on the time for it to travel to Rock Creek from the Kettle River Campground will get the prize of $300.

This celebration of the river is being sponsored by Discover Rock Creek.
