Greenwood Public Library's new logo.

Greenwood Public Library, with the help of local graphic artist Kim Kinakin, has created a new logo. (Well, it’s actually not a new logo, as it is our very first logo.) And we’ve decided to have a fun photo contest to help launch it. Simply send us your digital or print photo(s) depicting someone reading under a tree.

There are seven categories you can enter in:

• Selfie reading under a tree

• Reading under a tree most like the logo tree

• Most people reading under a tree

• Photo of someone reading under a tree taken by a child (13 and under)

• Reading to a pet under a tree

• Family reading under a tree

• School class reading under a tree

Details and entry forms (for print photos) are available at the library, and more information is available on our website at: greenwood.bclibrary.ca/events/photo-contest

Deadline for entries is Saturday, June 14 at 3 p.m. Winners in each category will receive prizes and certificates on Wednesday, June 25 at 7 p.m. at the library.

We plan to use some of the photos on our website. Have fun with it!

Our sidewalk book sale will be held as usual on Victoria Day, Monday, May 19 from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. We have a large collection of paperback and hardcover books, magazines, some DVDs, videos, audiobooks, and a few CDs for sale, plus a few other odds and ends such as two computer monitors. If you would like to support the library by donating materials for the book sale, please drop them off at the library before the day of the sale so we can get them sorted and ready. Prices are by donation, so whether you can donate a little or a lot, come out and find some really great books, etc. and help the library at the same time.

Congratulations to all the Grades 4 and 5 and Grades 6 and 7 students from Greenwood, West Boundary, and Big White Elementary Schools who participated in the Reading Link Challenge this year. There were 17 teams in total at the beginning, with all students reading some or all of six selected books and being prepared to answer questions on them.

Although only two teams came out on top, you were all awesome! And thanks to all the teachers involved for all their work in promoting this program in their classrooms. Looking forward to next year!`
