Midway’s volunteer fire department is partnering with a fire safety company and a community food share to donate smoke alarms in Midway and Rock Creek.

“Smoke alarms save lives,” Fire Chief Mike Daloise said.

The fire department is donating alarms made by Kidde Canada. The alarms will be distributed by the Kettle Valley Food Share Society, he explained.

Daloise is reminding everyone who lives in the West Boundary to test their smoke alarms once a month. The devices need to be replaced every ten years, he said.

“They will alert you and your family if a fire occurs, giving you the precious minutes — sometimes seconds — to escape safely.”

Anyone who wants help installing or maintaining a home or business smoke alarm is asked to call Midway Fire and Rescue at 250-449-2206.
