Each spring - just before the ice sheet is taken out of the arena - the grad class at BCSS will challenge their parents to a hockey game.

The BCSS Grads vs. Dads Hockey Game was held last Saturday night to raise funds for the Class of 2014 grad celebrations.

The grads were victorious at the annual Grads vs. Dads hockey game played at Midway arena last Saturday night.

The night began with Class of 2014 student Calvin Metcalf singing Oh Canada.

Announcing the game was BCSS principal-in-waiting Bo Macfarlane, who became very popular with the crowd by calling door prize winners throughout the evening. The referee for the evening was Andrew Bartelings.

The grads scored first, putting one in the net at 17:58 of the first. Less than a minute later the score was tied, though, and both teams traded goals throughout the period; it was tied at three goals apiece after the first period. Time was taken for a puck toss and for some of the dads to catch their breath during the intermission.

The dads had pulled away to an 8-4 lead after the second. Between the second and third periods there was something called Buck A Puck—with spectators offered the chance to take a shot at goal with grad Miranda Boltz as goaltender.

Six shots were scored, with Pattie Kirschner taking honours as the most determined participant.

There are always surprises at one of the Grads vs. Dads tourneys and this year was no exception because all six goals of those scored against Boltz during the intermission were put up on the scoreboard; however, when play resumed for the third period, the Grads had the lead and never looked back, winning the game 14 – 12.
