  • The Telephone is Coming  – “Greenwood is going to have a telephone line . . . and this time the residents are not being asked to clear the right of way and erect poles.  The Times pointed out a few weeks ago that the Nelson & Vernon Company were endeavoring to take advantage of Greenwood by making it a condition precedent to giving telephone connection that the town should clear the right of way, furnish the poles and erect the same. Mr. W.B. Artis of the American company who are operating the line into Republic and between Spokane and Rossland… stated that Greenwood ought to have a connection and he had made up his mind to run a line from Republic via Midway. The line is to be rushed and by July 1st, Greenwood is likely to have telephone communication with the outside world.”
  • C.P.R. Survey East of Boundary Creek – “A party of surveyors put in pegs this week. They followed the eastern slope to the new Catholic church, down the valley, ran through the soda water works, disturbed the pig-tailed Mongolians who chatter in the wash house by the bridge, divided Mr. Gordon’s house in two, crossed Silver Street by C.J. McArthur’s residence and on through the Sutherland addition. Should the railway be built along this route, the company will pay a heavy sum for expropriating valuable property.  It is quite possible however that the route adopted will be along the west side of the creek where the land has been reserved for that purpose.”
  • The Evils of Drinking Water – Rendell & Co.’s general store is running the following advertisement entitled The Evils of Drinking. “Too much water, particularly if it is not perfectly pure, is an experience we have all more or less knowledge of. To avoid the evils of it these thirsty days is something we are all interested in. If you are looking for a drink that is healthy and palatable, use Dillon’s Lime Juice Cordial or Morton’s Raspberry Vinegar. We have also some choice lines in light clarets, blackberry and black cherry wines and brandies. All are safe and pleasant beverages for these hot days.”
  • School Marks for the Entire Population to See – “Following is the standing of classes V and IV at Greenwood Public School for recent test examinations: in Canadian History of a total possible score of 125 - Charles Galloway, 101; Ted McArthur, 96; H. Ostroski, 88; John Galloway, 85; Julia Fisher, 76; Maude Butler, 74; Dollie Fisher, 32.  And in Map Drawing of a total possible score of 50 - Charles Galloway, 40; Ted McArthur, 25; Millie Evans, 20; Julia Fisher, 14; John Galloway, 13; Dollie Fisher, 12.”
  • New Sawmill Plant – “Mr. Adolph Fisher purchased a complete saw mill plant which will be placed in position on Eholt Creek. The mill is capable of cutting 40,000 feet per day. In addition to the saw mill plant proper, there are two planers and a shingle mill. The entire set-up will be operated by a 60-horse-power boiler.”
