Lloyd brings unique skills to area

“It’s all a matter of intention. I have found that if I intend on helping someone .... then that is more than likely the result.”

Carol Lloyd brings three skills to the West Boundary – Reiki, card reading and the investigation of hauntings. The first two she charges for, while the third is an interest that she would like to investigate and learn more about.

But even the first two, Reiki and cards, are not so much businesses, Lloyd explains. “It’s just something that I love to do and if I can make a little bit of money while doing it, then that’s fine.”

Regarding the ghost hunting she says she’s heard that there are a few places in Greenwood that are haunted and she’d love to be able to investigate.

She says her interest and knowledge has been gleaned from here and there over the many years that she has been involved with the paranormal. “I don’t charge anything for it. It’s just a pastime, meant to increase my own knowledge.”

While the haunting explorations are a new interest, Lloyd has been reading cards for 15 years. Rather than Tarot cards, she uses Path of the Soul, which she says are more symbolic for her.

She said her paternal grandmother was a card reader at a coffee shop on Robson Street many years ago and had quite a following. “She actually raised five kids just doing that. So it is in the family.

“The last class that I took there was 20 or so people in the class and besides impressing myself I impressed them with the things that I knew and the things that I could do. So I decided that I would take it a step further and not just do readings for friends but I would actually put an advertisement in the paper and share the gift.“

She charges $25 for a card reading, or $35 if the customer wants a recorded session.

Lloyd explained, “Some of the positions of the cards are meant to tell the future, others are about helping one get to know themselves and helping them overcome obstacles and fulfill their path of the soul – which is the name of the cards.”

Reiki is the skill that she has been practicing the longest (25 years) and she admits it is very important to her.

She explains Reiki as a form of hands-on healing. “There’s three levels and I am the last level, which is a Master.” She said to achieve this level requires many workshops and you have to be taught by another master.

“I do something that most Reiki practitioners don’t do and that is I start the session with a guided meditation. I feel that helps people to relax and actually allows the healing energy in. If a person is nervous or holding back it’s not as beneficial as when they are in a relaxed state.

“This does two things – it helps in their healing and it also introduces people to guided meditation, which I believe is so important especially in this day and age, to be able to relax their mind and slow everything down. If prayer is talking to God, meditation is being quiet enough to listen for the answer.”

A one-hour session costs $60. Both Reiki and card readings are done in her home.

Lloyd explains that she would love to give classes on psychic development and guided meditation.

“One of the most rewarding things to do is to teach people how to relax,” she says. “It’s all a matter of intention. I have found that if I intend on helping someone or if I intend to get them to a relaxed state where they can be helped, then that is more than likely the result.”

Reiki and card readings are available by appointment in her home. Phone her at 250-444-0525.

Lloyd says that while some may scoff at the paranormal, ghosts, card reading or even Reiki, she asks them to consider this:

“There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments, and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance— that principle is contempt prior to investigation.”
